The association Pro-Maïs

The association Pro-Maïs is a non-profit association open to all maize breeders creating varieties in the French territory, without distinction of nationality.

It was created on March 23rd, 1967 and includes currently 9 members.

It has two objectives :

  • to preserve the French genetic resources of maize, in collaboration with I.N.R.A.
  • to develop long term research programs concerning history and biodiversity of maize, its genetics, its breeding methods, and its improvement for digestibility and drought tolerance.

It is an excellent example of productive collaboration between public and private scientists.
